When building your home on your own, traditionally the “builder” does not have their own General Liability policy as a “General Contractor”.
The Personally owned and built home needs a “Builders Risk” policy that INCLUDES Liability coverage.
This policy is generally sold to individually owned property owners prior to any construction above the foundation.
Pricing is based on the Future value of the home and this policy CAN BE CONVERTED to a homeowner policy. If the home is sold, the unearned premium will be refunded.
This policy can be sold to any individual even without prior construction experience.
